About Glacier Bay National Park

Glacier Bay National Park is a national park located in Southeast Alaska, west of Juneau. Established as a national park in 1980, it encompasses over 3.3 million acres, including the bay's vast fjords and tidewater glaciers. Glacier Bay is known for its stunning views, deep canyons, and diverse plant and animal life. The park is home to over 1,700 species of plants and a variety of birds, reptiles, and mammals.

Glacier Bay National Park contains some of the world’s most impressive tidewater glaciers. The bay has experienced at least four major glacial advances and four major retreats and serves as an outdoor research laboratory.

The park is a homeland, a living laboratory, a national park, a designated wilderness, a biosphere reserve, and a world heritage site. It’s a marine park, where great adventure awaits by boating into inlets, coves, and hideaway harbors. It’s also a land park, with its snow-capped mountains, spectacular glaciers, and emerald-green forests.
