About Big Bend National Park

Big Bend National Park is a US national park located in the southwestern part of Texas, bordering Mexico. It was established on June 12, 1944, and encompasses over 800,000 acres of land.

The park is known for its diverse ecosystems, including mountain, desert, and river environments. It is home to more than 1,200 species of plants, over 450 species of birds, 56 species of reptiles, and 75 species of mammals.

The Chisos Mountains, which are located within the park, are the only mountain range in the United States to be fully contained within the boundary of a national park. The park is also famous for its geological features, such as sea fossils, dinosaur bones, and volcanic dikes. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including scenic drives, hiking, stargazing, and ranger-led programs.
