About Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is a 47,000-acre Atlantic coast recreation area primarily on Maine’s Mount Desert Island, USA. It was established in 1916 and is the oldest national park east of the Mississippi River.

The park is known for its diverse ecosystems such as coasts and rocky shorelines, forests, mountains, lakes and ponds, wetlands, marshes, and swamps, streams and watersheds, and scenic views and viewsheds.

The park’s landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches, and glacier-scoured granite peaks like Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East Coast. The park’s flora and fauna are also noteworthy, with an abundance of plant and animal life that has risen out of the forces of fire and ice. Among the wildlife are moose, bear, whales, and seabirds.
